I’ve got a ton of reviewing to go over this weekend cause I have a massive Anatomy test on Monday which means of course that I took many little breaks to prepare nomsy feasts to distract myself.

Among today’s eats was a kale salad inspired by my sister’s own creation. My version included olive oil massaged dinosaur kale, chopped red onion, a small roma tomato, lots of lemon juice, a couple spoonfuls of bulgur, and chopped up chicken that i seasoned with tandoori spices, chili powder, and cracked black pepper. All of these flavors combined beautifully.

For dinner, there was the inevitable return of the cauliflower crust pizza! I had some leftovers I wanted to use up and it worked much better this time since I remembered to oil the pan. I added some rosemary chicken on top and my tummy is happy. I love my Anthropologie plate :)

Now back to the flashcards…

Starting off, I wanted to thank Meg so much for including me in her High Five Friday! She is such an incredible sweetheart and her blog is one of my favorites. She talks about things that not many fitness bloggers talk about. Her posts on intuitive eating lately have been incredibly powerful. So thanks so much Meg, you spread so much support through your weekly high fives!

I live in a three bedroom apartment and my wall faces the sunlight. This means that basically at any given time, my room is about 7 degrees warmer. This is great during the winter but lately it’s been quite sunny… so my body has totally been tricked into thinking that it’s summer. Not so great for my studying habits. But it’s kind of hilarious because I will wake up and happily gulp down my oats but by the time lunch rolls around… I have total summer food cravings.

So today I whipped up some guacamole with roma tomato chunks, salad shrimp, and a bit of bulgur. Nothing spectacular but avocado porn is always welcome on the internet, non? I put so much raw garlic in here which was so amazing at the time but now I can probably live in Mystic Falls and be totally safe. I’ve gargled what feels like an entire Listerine bottle to no avail.

I’m so excited for this blog. I even got myself the obligatory food blogger Anthropologie initial mug. (Please excuse the coffee stains… ) I think it’s hilarious that this initial mug is supposedly the male version.

Hope everyone is having a great Friday and gets to do something fun!

While Italy as a whole probably disagrees with me, I made a pizza today. I love cheese. The stinkier, older, and more offensive-looking the cheese, the more I like it. This same rule does not apply to men. But I digress. I’ve heard of cauliflower crusts for awhile now, surely not a new idea in the fitness blogosphere but today I decided to join the masses and cook myself some pizza.

My roommate and I used this wonderful recipe for the crust.

And we chose to use this recipe for the toppings. We sauteed the onions and dinosaur kale in a bit of olive oil instead and the only cheese we used was the cheese in the crust. I microwaved a sweet potato, added some rosemary and almond milk to get a good consistency going.

It was a gorgeous meal. And tasted absolutely fantastic. We forgot to oil the aluminum foil so it proved a bit tricky serving the pizza but it still tasted like heaven.

And we only set the fire alarm off once. Skills yo.

We’ve already agreed that making pizza will become a weekly thing because this recipe came together so damn quickly and the ingredients are so simple. We’ve discussed a tandoori chicken version, a fig and turkey bacon variation, a dessert version with cinnamon and apples…

Drool.

I’ve been particularly awesome about some of my new year’s resolutions. Namely, the ones having to do with flossing (I was so tired of my scary Russian dentist scolding me and my sister’s boyfriend is studying dentistry so I feel pressure) and being on top of school work (although let’s be honest, I’m a total nerd so this wasn’t really a huge surprise) but… I’ve been a bit slow to start blogging. I’ve been creating my routine what with the new city, new apartment, new people, new school, and new classes! It’s been quite a scary but exciting time so far. I do miss San Diego but being back in Northern California has certainly been a nice change of pace. And it forces me to wear things other than yoga shorts and sports bras hehe.

I love establishing a routine. I thrive on routine. And I love knowing what works for me. This is why sometimes, I enjoy the week day more than the unstructured weekend. I love the sense of getting shit done and having that hour before you go to bed to just drink in the relaxation. And that’s why I’ve decided to start structuring my blog and finally doing it. I want to add another ball to my juggling act. I don’t know why I put it off for so long. I’ve been looking at other blogs, seeing what I think works and what doesn’t. I spent too much time planning. And for what? I won’t know what will work for me until I just sit down and do it. So here goes, my dears. How about a Workout Wednesday to kick things off?

Biceps and Chest

  • barbell curls
    • 2 x 10 narrow grip
    • 2 x 10 shoulder width grip
    • 2 x 10 wide grip
  • bicep curls
    • 4 x 9
  • cross body curl
    • 4 x 9
  • hammer curl
    • 4 x 9
  • reverse grip barbell curl
    • 3 x 10
  • bench press
    • 4 x 12, 10, 8, 6
  • chest press
    • 4 x 12, 10, 8, 6
  • pushups
    • 4 x max

I absolutely love training my biceps. They are my babies. Chest? Eh, not so much. But since I pair them with my favorite body part to train, it becomes infinitely better. Aren’t compromises a beautiful thing?

Poor roommates, I’ve been obsessed with lifting to this song¬†ever since Jamie Eason (#girlcrush) posted it on Facebook. Even though it’s technically 50 songs, I’m sure me putting it on repeat for the entirety of my workout is just fabulous. Sorry dudes…

Refueled after with my absolute favorite post-workout meal. BANANA PROTEIN PANCAKES! About half of a big frozen banana. Microwave banana for 30 seconds, add 1 scoop of protein powder a tiny bit of egg whites to get a good consistency. Pour onto a lightly oiled pan (I use a tiny bit of coconut oil mmmm) on low heat. Flip when you see bubbles! I topped it with some berries to add some moisture and cinnamon.

Now I’m going to go bury my head in flashcards for my chem quiz tonight. Four hours of chem class. Joyous.
